AI Assistants

Connect Claude, ChatGPT or any other app that supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP), and ask it to add the ingredients for tonight’s dinner, check what’s left to buy, or tidy up your list. Changes show up in the app, and on everyone’s phone you share the list with, straight away.

Connecting

  1. Add Bring Bananas to your assistant as a custom connector (MCP server) with the URL above.
  2. Your assistant opens a Bring Bananas page with a QR code and a short code. Scan the QR code with your phone’s camera, or open the app and enter the code in Settings → AI Assistants. On a phone, tap Open Bring Bananas instead.
  3. Check the assistant’s name and tap Approve. The page finishes connecting by itself.

Claude: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector. ChatGPT: add it as a connector in the Apps settings.

Tools

Tool What it does
list_shopping_lists Your shopping lists, including ones shared with you
get_shopping_list What’s still to buy on a list, and what was bought recently
add_items Add items, with an optional note such as a quantity. Items bought earlier are put back on the list instead of added twice
update_item Rename an item, change its note, tick it off or put it back
remove_items Delete items from a list

Disconnecting

Connected assistants are listed in the app under Settings → AI Assistants. Tap Disconnect and the assistant loses access straight away.
